Ward for young adults (EP4)

Older teens and young adults stand in a decisive phase of their life: they complete school, start occupational training or university education. Further novel experiences and challenges: earning money, making a driving licence, moving from home.

BUT: driving a car, learning the occupation of choice, flying with friends to enjoy vacation – is this possible at all with epilepsy?

Our ward for adolescents and young adults focuses on answering such questions. Beyond high-quality diagnostics and treatment of epilepsy, we aim to prepare our young patients for an independent life.

For that purpose, a multiprofessional team closely cooporates. Diagnostic procedures aim to clarify the cause and the allocation of our patients‘ epilepsies. The therapeutic spectrum comprises, beyond pharmacological treatments tailored to each patient, various individual or group therapies which aim to counsel the patients on miscellaneous areas of life. These include advices on occupational life, neuropsychological diagnostics and psychoeducation, ergotherapy, physiotherapy, art therapy, and interdisciplinary information seminary on epilepsy.

For further support, we offer sociomedical counseling to our patients even after discharge from our epilepsy ward. We closely cooperate with the office for epilepsy counseling which is located in Berlin-Wilmersdorf.

Admission is possible for patients aged between 16 and 24 years. The average duration for a stay at our ward is 2 to 3 weeks. The ward has eight beds in rooms for single or double occupancy.
